La mine est situ\u00e9e loin des villes voisines et est exploit\u00e9e par entre 800 et 900 employ\u00e9s vivant sur place. Les sources de sol et d\u2019eau entourant la mine sont contamin\u00e9es par l\u2019arsenic, class\u00e9s dans le groupe 1.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Le d\u00e9fi<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nLa conception de l\u2019usine de traitement de l\u2019eau potable devait tenir compte de l\u2019\u00e9limination de la contamination (limon, mati\u00e8res biologiques, ainsi que des r\u00e9sidus de fer et d\u2019algues) pour atteindre un niveau<br \/>\nde moins de 1 NTU, ainsi que de ramener le niveau d\u2019arsenic de l\u2019actuel 80-100 ppb \u00e0 moins de 10 ppb. L\u2019\u00e9limination de l\u2019arsenic s\u2019est av\u00e9r\u00e9e particuli\u00e8rement difficile, car il se dissout dans l\u2019eau et doit \u00eatre modifi\u00e9 \u00e0 sa forme de particules afin qu\u2019il puisse \u00eatre captur\u00e9 sur les milieux de filtration. Le syst\u00e8me devait \u00e9galement se conformer \u00e0 la<br \/>\nexigences strictes en mati\u00e8re de conception de code ASME. L\u2019\u00e9loignement du site a pos\u00e9 un certain nombre de d\u00e9fis logistiques. Comme les laboratoires d\u2019essai \u00e9taient \u00e9loign\u00e9s, les r\u00e9sultats de la qualit\u00e9 de l\u2019eau ont \u00e9t\u00e9 retard\u00e9s, ce qui rend difficile de d\u00e9terminer comment proc\u00e9der \u00e0 la conception finale.
